This Week in History

Based in Atlanta, World Championship Wrestling (WCW) impressed crowds on their home turf at Philips Arena on June 5, 2000. Hulk Hogan, Bill Goldberg, and Randy Savage, among others gained popularity by combining athleticism and showmanship in their routines. WCW would host televised events every Monday at various venues, and this particular event was won by Eric Bischoff. Using his trademark taekwondo moves and daredevil stunts, Bischoff was able to roundhouse kick his way to a victory. As the president of the WCW, Bischoff often stayed on the other side of the ropes, but his debut at Philips Arena was an exception and a night that fans still vividly recall.
