With the decreasing temperature, changing leaves and holiday
season swiftly approaching, Philips Arena can not help but get excited for the
arrival of Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving is a time not only for turkey and
stuffing but sharing and giving back. While their genres vary, Elton John and
Robin Thicke share the common denominator of philanthropy and charity work. Let’s
dig a little deeper into what they are doing to help their communities:

Sir Elton John, one of the most well respected artists of
all time with over 300 million albums sold worldwide throughout the course of
his career, is never hesitant to lend a helping hand. Elton John created the
Elton John AIDS Foundation in 1992 after untimely deaths of a couple of his
dear friends. According to the
organization’s website the charity focuses on “empowering people infected, affected and at risk of
HIV/AIDS, alleviating their physical, emotional and financial hardship, and
improving their quality of life by enabling them to live with dignity and
exercise self-determination.” Elton John
continues to receive award after award for his contributions to the community
affected with HIV and AIDS. On October 30, Sir Elton John received his most
recent award,
The Rockefeller Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Rockefeller Foundation's Lifetime
Achievement Award is “given annually to an outstanding individual who has
implemented major innovative approaches to social or environmental problems.”
Past recipients include President Bill Clinton and Ratan Tata!

Robin Thicke has contributed many of his efforts to
charities. Thicke has been seen topping Billboard charts and more recently
taking the VMA stage with global icon Miley Cyrus, but rarely will one hear
about his work with the various charities he supports. This year, Robin Thicke
is an ambassador of the Gentlemen’s Fund Initiative, an organization that
“raises awareness to issues essential to modern men.” Through this organization, Thicke headlined
the Gentlemen Give Back Concert which donated 50 percent of each ticket sold to
one of four charities. Robin Thicke has also teamed up with Tickets for
Charity. On February 21, he will begin a small tour in which a portion of each
ticket sale will benefit great causes like St. Jude Children’s Hospital!
Now that we know little bit more about what celebrities are
doing to lend a hand this holiday season, let us know what you are doing to
give back this Thanksgiving!
