We are delighted to welcome back Disney On Ice Presents:
“Let’s Celebrate!” to Philips Arena this week! Come join us as we travel the
world with all of our favorite Disney friends celebrating holidays, festivals,
and more! Visit a winter wonderland with Mickey and Minnie, go on a Halloween
hunt with Disney villains, attend the royal ball with the princesses, and have
a very merry unbirthday with Alice and the Madhatter, along with some
additional surprises!
Also joining the celebration this year is Lilo and her
faithful “dog” Stitch! To help us prepare for our luau with them, we wanted to
take a look into Hawaiian culture and learn a little bit more about the
festivity native to Lilo’s hometown.

On the show Lilo
and Stitch and in Lilo and
Stitch: The Movie you will often see Lilo and her family participating
in luaus. A luau is a Hawaiian party or feast that features traditional foods,
dancing, and entertainment! The luau originated in Hawaii and was once a celebration
for the royal. Enormous amounts of food was prepared and enjoyed only by the
rich and powerful on the island. The name “luau” comes from one of the most
popular dishes featured at these celebrations. It includes leaves and taro
plants combined with chicken and baked in coconut milk.
Dancing is also a large part of Lilo’s world and an
important feature of modern day luaus. Originating in Hawaii, hula is cultural
dance performed predominately by women at luaus. Hula features flowing hand and
hip movements and is traditionally performed to ukulele or similar music.
Now that you know a little about luaus throw on your hula
skirts and come celebrate with Lilo and Stitch at Philips Arena during Disney
on Ice Presents “Let’s Celebrate!”
Tickets are still available, so buy yours today to join the
celebration!
